ASEAN Rubber Conference is ASEAN’s premier rubber summit meant for a global audience and is dedicated to high level discussions of the market determining forces and development in the industry throughout the region and the world.

Study Tour

One day before the start of conference proceedings, delegates to ARC 2009 can opt to go for a study tour to a rubber plantation which implements Integrated Farming System (IFS), located around 50 minutes from Vientiane.

The farm is essentially a primary rubber plantation with acacia intercropping and a chicken farm, and furthermore it integrates aquaculture into the crop-animal system. This integrated technique is implemented to increase profit out of small land holdings where income can be enhanced from the quicker yield of fish while organic manures is used to improve the fertility of land, instead of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

During the tour, delegates will gain a better understanding of IFS and its benefits in alleviating economic issues and in making farming activities economically viable and ecologically sustainable.

Explore Investment Opportunities in Laos

Laos of late is known as an undiscovered investment heaven with great potential for foreign investors. It has now established trade relations with over 30 countries and has recently been given free trade and free tariff access to European Union member countries.

These opportunities are further strengthened by the government's affirmative policy on foreign investment and a quality labor force which is relatively young. Increasing numbers of foreign companies had met success in their undertakings.

In conjunction with the 5th ASEAN Rubber Conference, a special presentation on the Investment Opportunities in Laos will held subsequent to the study tour on the day prior to the conference proper.
